Keep Your Drilling Mud Clean and Safe

A vacuum degasser is a key piece of solids control equipment. It removes dangerous, trapped gases from drilling fluid, or “mud.” These gases can cause kicks or even blowouts. The mechanism of action is that it produces a strong vacuum within its tank. This vacuum gets the harmful gases to come out of the mud and the drilling process ends up being very safe for all people on the rig.

How Vacuum Degassing Works

The process is straightforward but effective. Mud flows into the degasser tank. A strong vacuum reduces internal pressure. This makes the gases that are trapped, such as methane or hydrogen sulfide to be separated out of the liquid. They bubble up and out. The cleaned, degassed mud is then pumped back into the system, ready for reuse. This is the core of vacuum degassing.
